The package we’re introducing is a gift set box designed to be carried as-is, without a separate shopping bag. By changing the opening method and adding a string that also functions as a handle, it was created to combine product protection, portability, and gift presentation in one solution.

The box type used is a corrugated two-piece box. Since the lid and body are separate, we changed the lid into a slide-open style and added a black braided cord. When the lid is lifted, the products inside are visible, and when you hold the cord, you can carry it just like a shopping bag.

With standard full-color (CMYK) printing, it’s difficult to capture the metallic look of gold. Spot color printing, on the other hand, makes it possible to reproduce special colors that are hard to express with ordinary printing alone, such as gold, silver, or fluorescent colors. Especially when the design focuses on key elements like a logo or text, it can create a premium impression more efficiently than full-color printing, making it highly versatile.

For the 커인터내셔널 package, we applied 1-color gold spot printing on white corrugated board. The brand logo, the slogan ‘정직한 한 방울’ (“An Honest Drop”), and product information were printed in gold to better express the brand’s atmosphere. A matte coating was then added to refine the rough texture of the corrugated surface and reduce light reflection, allowing the gold to stand out subtly rather than too strongly.

On the back of the box, the brand story was arranged vertically, and a QR code was added at the bottom so customers could go directly to the online store.

Things to Check Before Producing a Food Gift Package

Unlike cosmetics or general goods, a gift box for food products requires a more careful review before production. The right material and structure can vary depending on whether the food touches the box directly, whether the package can support the product’s weight, and whether the storage environment must also be considered.

Does the food touch the box directly?

• If the food touches the box directly, you must use a food-contact-safe material.
• If the products are individually packaged, check first whether there is direct contact.

The first thing to check in a food package is whether the food directly touches the inside surface of the box. If the food comes into contact without any wrapping, you must use materials and coatings that meet food hygiene standards. On the other hand, in cases like the 커인터내셔널 package, where bottled products are placed in the box while individually packaged, the standards may differ because there is no direct contact. If you’re preparing a package for baked goods or fruit gift sets where the food itself goes directly inside, it’s important to confirm from the design stage that the material is suitable for food contact.

Can the structure safely support the product’s weight?

• For heavy products, check both bottom sagging and string attachment points.
• It’s important to pre-design the corrugated thickness, string-fixing method, and bottom reinforcement.

Food gift sets often weigh more than expected depending on their contents. For example, a set with two bottles of sesame oil needs enough structural reinforcement to prevent the bottom from sagging or the string attachment points from loosening when the box is carried. These packages are not completed by appearance alone; the corrugated thickness, string attachment method, and bottom reinforcement must all be reviewed together for safe use. In general, E-flute or higher is often considered, and for heavier products, it’s better to also review BE-flute.

Are the material and finishing appropriate for the storage environment?

In such cases, it may be necessary to add a moisture-resistant coating or even consider materials other than corrugated board. Ultimately, food packaging must be designed with the storage environment in mind so it can maintain stable quality throughout actual use.

In short, food gift packaging requires one level more careful review than general packaging. The material standards change depending on direct food contact, the structure changes depending on product weight, and the finishing method changes depending on the storage environment. The earlier you check these three points during planning, the easier it is to reduce trial and error and complete a package that suits the product more reliably.
