Introducing Packative’s Paper Box Types

Do you know the different types of boxes Packative offers?

Finding it hard to understand the different box types? We’ll walk you through the features of each type!

Let’s take a look together.

The basics of boxes: folding boxes / product boxes

These folding packaging boxes are mainly used for small products such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soap, and food. A folding box refers to a box made from a single layer of paper, and it usually has a basic cuboid shape. It is mainly made from Manila paper.

Folding boxes are commonly used for small, lightweight products, and they are also often used as inner boxes inside larger outer packaging. They are frequently used for retail display packaging for products such as candle boxes and soap boxes.

Among folding boxes, there are tuck-end boxes, crash-lock bottom boxes, and three-side glued boxes. In terms of durability, the three-side glued box ranks first, followed by the crash-lock bottom box, with the tuck-end box last. Packative uses the strongest type among folding boxes: the three-side glued box. Compared with other folding boxes, it can package heavier products.

Folding boxes have a relatively simple production process, and because they can be folded flat for storage, they are convenient and practical in many ways. That is why they are also the most widely used box type for retail products. However, because they are not very strong, they may not be suitable as shipping boxes.

Perfect for gift packaging: sleeve boxes

These boxes are also called drawer-style sleeve boxes, matchbox boxes, sliding boxes, S-shaped boxes, drawer-style sleeve boxes, or slide boxes. Because the inner box is slid into the outer sleeve, they go by many different names. Inside, a foldable box that does not require separate adhesive is inserted, making them relatively affordable and eco-friendly.

For drawer-style boxes, it is essential that the outer sleeve cover and the inner box fit properly.

Sleeve boxes are often used for gift packaging or when a brand wants to present a more premium image than standard products, thanks to their distinctive opening and closing style and unique structure that makes design stand out. They are suitable for packaging small, giftable items such as diffusers, soap, and other home and lifestyle products, as well as fashion accessories like scarves and mufflers.

If you want your project to succeed through packaging

For takeaway packaging: handle boxes

Handle boxes are mainly used for packaging small items such as gifts, confectionery products, soap, and accessories. A handle box is a paper box with a handle added as part of its structure. Because the handle is built into the box, it stays securely closed and is convenient to carry.

The handle boxes offered by Packative are appropriately sized for small products and accessories such as mini tarts, plaster diffusers, candles, and sock sets, making them suitable for stores that serve many takeaway customers.

Also, while plastic bags are often added for portability when selling products, handle boxes do not require such unnecessary extra packaging. Use the built-in handle to give customers a convenient carrying experience.

The basic box for dessert packaging: donut boxes

These are food packaging containers commonly used in bakeries.

They are especially well known overseas as donut boxes because they are often used by donut franchises such as Krispy Kreme, but they are also frequently used for packaging other desserts. Depending on your needs, they can also be used for products such as madeleines, macarons, canelés, and dacquoise.

With a lid-and-box integrated structure that is easy to open and close, and a snap feature to prevent accidental opening, packaging and storage are made simple.

After placing the product in the box, simply pull out the fold on the side slit, and the contents inside will not spill out, making it convenient. It is also a more eco-friendly option because it can secure products without tape or rubber bands.

Most often used for accessory gift packaging: pillow boxes

Packative half-moon box

These are also called half-moon boxes, concave boxes, and pillow-shaped boxes. Because of their distinctive structure, they are often described by their shape rather than by structure or use, such as concave/half-moon or pillow-shaped.

Since half-moon boxes have a tetrahedral shape, they are also very easy to fold flat for storage. That makes them a useful packaging option when warehouse or storage space is limited.

Because they create a striking effect that stands out from the basic rectangular box shape, they are often used for gift packaging. However, they have limitations when packaging hard or bulky items, so they are frequently used for small textile accessories, handkerchiefs, ties, socks, and other small fashion items, handmade accessories, natural soap, and similar products.

For subscription services and brand shipping services: mailer boxes (G-type boxes)

G-type boxes are boxes with a pre-formed bottom structure and a top flap that closes with a hook-style mechanism. Thanks to their secure closing structure, they are widely used for products that require cushioning. The G-type boxes sold as mailer boxes by Packative are assembled as a single piece without separate glue or tape, making them eco-friendly and very convenient to pack.

If you want to learn more about subscription services

G-type boxes are laminated packages made by combining corrugated board with printed paper, allowing them to have both the sturdiness of corrugated board and the beautiful colors of paper packaging. That is why they are often used for subscription product services and artist brand packaging where branding matters.
