Hi, this is Packative.
💿 Have you heard the term “album unboxing sprees”? It refers to buying large quantities of the same album to win a fan sign event entry or collect photo cards, while not really opening the albums.
K-POP’s album-unboxing culture has recently emerged as a major environmental issue. In response, the entertainment industry is working in various ways to produce eco-friendly album packages in order to reduce the many environmental problems that arise in album production.

🎧NewJeans 1st EP [New Jeans] Weverse Album: Enjoy your favorite tracks with a QR code instead of a CD

The Weverse version of girl group NJZ’s first EP, 'New Jeans,' comes in a tuck-end-style (envelope-style) box that fits in the palm of your hand, about the size of a photo-card album. When you open it, instead of the familiar plastic CD, it contains a sheet with a QR code carrying the track information, which you can use to download the album’s songs.
Less excessive packaging and lower prices for album production ↓, with the same benefits such as photo cards and merchandise! And on top of that, it’s a digital album you can keep forever, unlike physical records that fade with time! 🤩
🎧BLACKPINK 2nd [BORN PINK]: An eco-friendly album made from paper, ink, and even plastic, all eco-friendly

To protect the environment, girl group BLACKPINK’s second full-length album 'BORN PINK' was produced using FSC-certified paper, low-carbon eco-friendly paper, soy ink, environmentally friendly coating, and packaging film made from biodegradable material *PLA. It’s impressive that eco-friendliness was considered throughout every step of the album production process, from paper and printing to coating and film.
*🌱What is PLA (Polylactic Acid)? A type of biodegradable plastic made by polymerizing lactic acid, which is extracted mainly from plant-based raw materials such as corn starch and sugarcane. It has the property of breaking down in nature, making it a biodegradable material that minimizes environmental impact.

🌏A healthy K-POP culture and planet, and eco-friendly fandom for my favorite artist
In 2023, domestic album sales in Korea reportedly surpassed 100 million copies for the first time ever. K-POP is enjoying an incredible golden age, but the amount of plastic generated by albums has increased more than 8.3 times in just four years 😅. Let’s all work together to help the K-POP industry grow in a sustainable direction through album digitization, eco-friendly production methods, improved consumption habits, and legal/social changes!
